Sometimes God asks us to wait…for healing, direction, an answer to prayer. And usually I’d much rather do something, anything, to move things along faster. Because waiting is the worst.
When I’m waiting, I have to be careful not to look too much at my circumstances. The ones that shift and buckle and change. The ones that look promising some days and hopeless other days. The circumstances disguising themselves as doors slammed in my face. Or the ones that look like doors wide open that don’t really lead to where I’m going.
Because what I really want to do is move steadily towards that thing God has made me for. I just want steady progress. One step at a time is good.
But there are a lot of verses in the Bible where God says, “Wait.”
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
And often, like in the verse today, hoping and waiting go together.
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” Micah 7:7
When we wait with hope, we trust that God will do what he says. That he’ll keep his promises to us.
He will hear us.
