Faith and hope are like peanut butter and jelly. They are better together.
God’s promises are the things we hope for.
Promises like God will never leave us:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
God is faithful and loving:
“The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.” Psalm 145:13
We are his people:
“I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.” Exodus 6:7
Jesus came to give us a full life:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
And after we have hope in God’s promises, faith is confidence that God keeps those promises. It is the shield that protects our hope. When our circumstances don’t measure up to our expectations and we can’t see how those promises we are hoping for will be fulfilled, faith preserves our hope.
